Claim to fame

(1) Can eat a block of 350 grams Australian Cadbury in less than 15 mins while driving
(2) Have walked in stilettos from Edgware road to convert Garden and back to Leicester Square (never to be repeated again)

Total for the weekend

Friday walked 3ks
Saturday walked 12ks
Sunday apparently (according to the map) I rode 24ks – I’m not sure I don’t think I’m hurting enough for 24 but it was flat?? So Maybe??

After this weekend, I am wondering can I really ride a bike in heels? Like the women in Amsterdam? Do I just think Italy is the best because Richard was with me – but then how is Paris last on my list?

Sunday Stroll

Sunday
Started with a very yummy Breakfast at this Kitsch little coffee shop that one of the guys from work told me about (http://www.debakkerswinkel.nl/) (little bit of NY to it : ) always a happy bunny when I get good quality coffee first thing in the morning. They don’t do Lattés like Australia, Italy, London or Paris but their cappuccino Yum!

Next stop the fake beach (was interested to see how it compared to South Bank) (fake beach in QLD, Australia) (http://www.strand-zuid.nl/) Free – tick, Hot chicks in Bikinis very big tick, White sand tick, friendly, outdoor area tick, water…. No thanks. Maybe if I wanted to go rowing and put a fishing line in??

Next stop MAC Bike to hire a bike.(every where I read – 750,000 people in Amsterdam and 600,000 bikes) The country side was wonderful, old hundred year old farm houses, green paddock, after green paddock, 1/20th the number of people as the city, swans, ducks, ducklings – fluffy and cute, horses, more dogs, sheep found myself two Dykes (windmills) (Extra tick), lovely large canal – but I could n’t help thinking yes this is all great but in 6 weeks time this is my backyard. Ok Oxford doe n’t have Dykes but it has the rest and if I really want I can go bike riding down the Thames in Oxford and watch the river, the horses, the ducks, and the Swans. Guess we will see…

Saturday

After Chocolate my favourite food is Garlic, (yes technically it’s a herb) anyway the Netherlands apparently has great cheese – well it has even better Garlic cheese – yummy! (Sorry everyone - chance of it making it back to London – negative 100) The one thing I really wanted to do was go to and see the Anne Frank Huis, I got there and the line was just amazing not as bad as the Eiffel tower on New Years day, but I left. Next stop I had to check out the shops, price wise OK, but nothing great like Prague, Portugal or New York. But I would come back here to go shopping because there are so many shops that we don’t have in London and you could get some really great stuff that no one else has plus the fact that its Euros always good. Nothing better than spending a few hours on a Saturday looking at Van Gogh work (http://www.vangoghmuseum.nl/) I paid the 4 Euros extra and did the audio, figured I should get the most out of it. I did enjoy hearing about his life and how his talent grew; they did repeat some things a few times, but on the whole pretty good. Next back to Anne Frank – the line was half as long so in the end it was only 30 mins in the queue and then over an hour going through the house – very glad I got to do this. For dessert on Saturday night I went to the Australian Shop and had homemade Ice Cream, did I miss something ?? Since when did we start selling Home Made Australian Ice – very yummy but I’m not sure it was Australian.??? Could be up there with the Kangaroo brand of clothing – Maybe its Austrian????

Sailing Away

I don’t know??? But by the time this Laptop starts up I can do two coats of nail polish. (opps hope no one from work is readying this)

Anyway as you have to do everything in life once and if it does n’t kill you it can only make you stronger, I am currently on the boat back to London.
I still really want to do Euro Star (the train between the UK and Europe) but I still can’t justify the cost when flying is soooo cheap. But instead of accommodation, hotel tax and Air fairs I have one all in one return ticket from Liverpool station to Amsterdam central.

Stress wise it wins hands down over Heathrow, if I think how stressed I was by the time we actually got to Portugal, e.g. London Tube from zone 1 to 5, Heathrow Customs, a lovely hot long line for 45 mins, Heathrow customs again, (YES again) get on the plane sit on the tarmac for1 hr and the rest. VS Zone 1 to Zone 1, a train ride, yes of course as this is London the train broke down but they made an express train stop at which ever train station in the middle of nowhere we where at and then drop as at the next stop down and then organised a special train just to take the people getting on the boat.

Seriously feeling Da ja vou, just like being on the cruise again (when 11 of us from the fire station when on a cruise of the pacific), except I have a Double Cabin all to myself. (Oooo they have just announced tonight’s movie in the Cinema is Shrike 3 – tempting but I need to do this)

Might also be loving the boat as I got the best nights sleep in I don’t know how long, I have been dying just to get back on the boat so I can sleep again, very sad I know. But its so dark – you can’t see your hands in front of your face, very cold, a fab heavy doner, and no number 88 to come home drunk at 5 am and push our buzzer. (Maybe Bubble needs to give them some kindergarten lessons on the difference between the numbers 84 and 88)

The Netherlands office looks over one of the 165 Canals in Amsterdam (165 that’s right, and 1280 or so bridges), I could so live here. I love learning how every country is so different, facing different challengers, also first hand experience of the internet, What percentage of the population are on broadband? Do they shop online?
The Guys at work also told me I just missed Amsterdam Pride – just Mardi Gras but on boats.

After work I thought OK here I come red light district, so I walked from my hotel up, on the way I thought how could you Richard, Amsterdam is so great! (why didn’t you tell me, I should of come here months and months ago) (Speaking of months and months I have been here 11months today – wow, time fly’s) the atmosphere, the bikes, the canals, the shops, the life style. (and no I am not talking about the drugs) – yes you can buy them everywhere and clearly I ran into /had walk into me some people who have taken way to much of something and are on their own plant but I felt really safe in Amsterdam.

The Red light district
Maybe I’m getting old but it just left me feeling sad. (Maybe I need to stop reading all these articles on women being brought into London to be Sex slaves)

The Simpsons

Could I be related to Mo from the Simpson's?

I think so watch my eyes at the end

Oxford Again

Well I am actually getting to see some of London, finally.

On Friday night I went out with a Girlfriend from work and did Jack the Ripper tour. The lady giving the tour is writing a book on the subject and has been researching it for 18 years. Even though it does n’t get dark here till after 9.45 pm I was still a little scared plus as it was on the boarder of white chapel I was worried about getting mugged.

But I do want to go out to dinner in Brick Land and experience how multicultural London really is. (We did walk down Brick Lane as part of the tour)

Today I went for a really long walk around Oxford; it really is a very nice area. The slow pace, everything green, being near the water and the missing smell of London pollution.

To break with tradition I had a good chat with an old English couple who live on the Thames but are currently stuck in Oxford as they can’t get up the river due to the flooding.
There was still a lot of water over a number of paddocks. The Horses I did see seemed to be in higher ground paddocks. But there where sand bags in sections over town and you could see some water lines on the buildings.

I still did mange to chat to some Americans, because for some reason I don’t seem to be able to go anywhere without doing that even if it is just Cambridge or another country.

Maybe we will have to start check these of our lists of wired things to do instead of checking out toilets’:-
